Stay Cool in Oxnard During Summer Heat



OXNARD, Calif. – With warm summer days ahead, the City of Oxnard encourages community members to take advantage of the many free indoor activities provided by the City’s Recreation Department to stay cool and entertained.

Visit Oxnard Public Libraries

Oxnard’s Public Libraries are the perfect spots to escape the heat. Besides a vast collection of books and reading materials, the libraries host engaging activities for all ages—children, teens, and adults alike. Discover the exciting events planned for July!


Drop By Oxnard’s Senior Centers

For community members aged 55 and above, Oxnard’s Senior Centers offer a variety of programs and activities at four locations: Colonia Senior Center, Palm Vista Senior Center, South Oxnard Senior Center, and Wilson Senior Center. When it’s too hot outside, cool off indoors with Oxnard’s Senior Services staff.

Please be aware that all City facilities will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in observance of Independence Day.


Stay Safe in the Heat

Here are some tips to help you stay safe and cool during the hot weather:

💧 Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

👕 Dress Appropriately: Wear loose, light-colored clothing to keep cool.

🏘️ Check on Neighbors: Look out for those who might be vulnerable to the heat, especially those without air conditioning.

🚙 Never Leave Children or Pets in Vehicles!

🌳 Take Breaks: If you’re working or playing outside, take frequent breaks in the shade and stay hydrated.

🐶 Care for Pets: Keep pets indoors when possible, and provide water and a shady place to rest.
