The California Peace Officers Memorial is located in Sacramento’s Capitol Park at 10th Street and Capitol Mall. Dedicated on May 17, 1988, the memorial is a three-figured bronze monument that honors California peace officers that were killed in the line of duty.
The three standing figures on the memorial represent a county sheriff, a state traffic officer, and a municipal police officer. To give real meaning to the piece, there is a life-sized bronze sculpture of a woman on a bench comforting a child, seated facing the monument. A folded American flag, which is conveyed to surviving family members of fallen officers, sits next to them on the bench.
In front of the woman and child, a kneeling female officer presents a folded flag.
The names of all seven of Oxnard’s Fallen Officers are forever enshrined on this tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting their community.
