OXNARD, CA – City of Oxnard Public Works and Cultural and Community Services Departments, in cooperation with Squire Foundation, are proud to announce a temporary exhibition of four animal sculptures at Plaza Park in Downtown Oxnard, Fifth and B Streets. A free public reception and community painting event of the Ram will take place at the park on Saturday, June 1, 2019, from 11 a.m. to noon along with the Insect Festival that is taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Animal sculptures created by late Santa Barbara County artist Morris Squire are on loan from the Squire Foundation, which is dedicated to civic and educational programs for artists, curators and all manner of creative people. Squire Foundation Artist in Residence Nicole C. Berry said, “We look forward to creating a fun art experience and something to be proud of; a creation the community will want to come back and visit.” Oxnard Mayor Tim Flynn stated, “Oxnard is fortunate to have such talented artists loan us these impressive sculptures.”

The Morris B. Squire Foundation is a lending resource of contemporary art from the San Diego Zoo to Children’s Museums to local parks throughout Southern California. The Foundation continues to make Squire’s art available for exhibition at accredited institutions throughout the world. The result is a full time lending library of contemporary art that has been written up in papers nationally and internationally. The animal sculptures will be on display from June through November 2019 at Plaza Park.
