CITY TO PRESENT ‘MUNICIPAL BUDGETING 101’ AND DISCUSS HOUSING POLICY AT SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON OCT. 29

OXNARD, Calif. – In order to help the community better understand the City’s budget, budgeting process and financial policies, City staff prepared a presentation that helps to explain how the City is funded, to what services the money is distributed and how its budgeting process works.

The goal of the presentation is for the Council and the greater Oxnard community to better understand the City’s budget and the limitations that are placed on various sources of revenue. Additionally, the presentation provides examples of how tax dollars are divided among the State of California and other tax-funded units of government. The presentation also highlights current budget policies and outlines the planning process for the upcoming fiscal year.

The special meeting will also include a presentation on housing and housing policy, which will review relevant California housing legislation passed since 2017 and how this will impact policies and programs in Oxnard. The City is in the process of conducting its sixth Regional Housing Needs Assessment as required by the State of California, which is an assessment of current housing numbers and serves to guide future housing needs. The housing policy discussion will cover topics such as considering increased housing densities in parts of the City and along transit corridors, mixed-use development in targeted areas, and accommodating unique housing types such as accessory dwelling units and tiny homes.

The special meeting of the City Council will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at the Council Chambers (305 West Third St.) at 5 p.m. The meeting will be broadcast live on Spectrum Ch. 10, Frontier Ch. 35 and online at https://www.oxnard.org/city-meetings/. We encourage the public to join us.
