Downtown Oxnard to Become an Arts Hub
Oxnard, California – Downtown Oxnard is on its way to becoming an arts hub.
The Oxnard City Council on Tuesday approved a five-year plan for a Downtown Oxnard Arts Hub, and agreed to appropriate $90,000 toward the installation of three iconic anchor murals within the central business district. The murals, whose locations have yet to be decided, will be installed from June 2018 through March 2019.
Half of the $90,000 will be funded through the Downtown Improvement Project Settlement Funds. The remaining half will come from the Public Art Fund.
The $90,000 will be divided equally among the three mural projects.
A vibrant arts hub has the ability to generate significant economic activity in downtown Oxnard. The city has long demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the lively arts, including the adoption of a Cultural Arts Master Plan, the creation of a Cultural Arts Commission and passage of the Downtown Vision Plan, which calls for the creation of an Arts Hub in downtown Oxnard.
The Oxnard arts hub is one of several initiatives supported by the city to help revitalize the downtown; strengthen neighborhood development; create vibrant and economically sustainable businesses; attract new businesses; as well as enhance business development and retention.
