Hazardous Conditions Along Local Beaches

OXNARD, Calif. -The National Weather Service in Oxnard has issued a Beach Hazard Statement for the period beginning Saturday morning (1/5/19) and continuing through Monday morning (1/7/19).

There is a high potential that breakers of up to 10 to 14 feet with max sets to 17 feet will occur along the Central Coast, with surf of 7 feet or higher possible for west-facing beaches of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties.  During this time waves along the affected shores will be higher than normal. Residents and visitors are urged to use caution when near the shoreline and avoid entering the water due to the dangerous wave action and strong rip currents.

There is also the potential of moderate to heavy rain in the area beginning Saturday afternoon and continuing through Sunday. Thunderstorms are also possible during this period. If your property has a history of flooding, residents and business are encouraged to take protective actions in advance of the rain. During storms and periods of rain, caution should also be used around all flooded streets, culverts, streams and rivers. Residents are encouraged to report storm-related hazards such as flooded roads, malfunctioning traffic signals, downed trees, limbs, and electrical wires.

Oxnard officials will closely be monitoring the surf and storm conditions and remain in communication with the Ventura County Office of Emergency Services and the National Weather Service.

Should surf weather conditions become severe, emergency information would be posted at: http://www.vcemergency.com
