Frequently Asked Questions
California residents over age 18 may apply for a free Library Card that may be used at the Main Library, South Oxnard Branch, and Colonia Branch Libraries to borrow materials. For cardholders who are under 18 the application must be signed by a parent or guardian in person. All California residents may apply for a digital card that provides access to computers and free online resources only.

Photo ID, and proof of address such as a utility bill, or piece of delivered mail with name and address, is required to receive your Library Card. Military personnel may present their military ID and proof of address for their permanent home of record.
A parent or guardian of a minor may choose whether to limit materials borrowed to items in the children’s collections only, or permit borrowing from all Library collections. Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring that borrowed materials are age appropriate.
By applying for a library card account you agree to return borrowed materials, maintain the account in good standing, to immediately report a lost library card or change of address, to observe library policies and code of conduct as well as to pay any accrued account charges.
Adult library card holders may checkout 50 items in total, while minors may checkout 25 items in total per library card account. All patrons may place holds on up to 25 items. All new items, including children’s materials, can be checked out for 14 days. All other materials, including DVDs and test booklets, may be checked out for 28 days, with one renewal allowed as long as no holds have been placed on your borrowed item.
Your Library Card number and 4-digit PIN, which defaults to the last 4 digits of your phone number unless you change it, provides access to your account online and to the Library computers. You are encouraged to view item due dates, renew items if available, place Holds, and view any fees that may have accrued on your account.
Library cards expire 3 years after registration. Please visit an Oxnard Public Library and present a valid photo ID and proof of address if you have forgotten your PIN, need to reactivate an expired card, or get a replacement card for a nominal $2.00 charge.
Items that have renewals available may be renewed for 28 days online through “My Account”, at the Library, or over the phone at (805) 385-7507 (Main Library), (805) 385-8129 (South Oxnard Branch Library) or (805) 385-8108 (Colonia Branch Library).
You may search the collections online and place a hold on up to 10 items for adults and 5 items for minors. Patrons are notified by email when items are ready for pickup. You may check “My Account” online anytime, or call the Library during open hours for the status of your hold.
Items are held for 7 days, before being sent back to the shelf or to the next requesting patron. There are now no fees on not picking up held items by the end of the 7 day time period.

Borrowing privileges extend to cardholders owing less than $10.00 on their account. Payments may be made by cash or check, made payable to the City of Oxnard at your local library. Checks submitted with insufficient funds are subject to additional fees.
